The 18-oz Pub Glass

I think bars should steer away from the 16-oz pub glass. When drinking beer, we typically measure consumption in 12-oz units. I'm a proponent of larger sized portions, so instead of moving downwards towards a 12-oz glass for easier unit tabulation, I would propose moving up towards a standardized 18-oz glass. Not only is it larger than the 16-oz glass, and thus, inherently better, it also aides tracking 12-oz units in halves and wholes, as opposed to dealing with salty thirds.

If you've had four 18 ozers and someone asks you how many beers you've had, you would quickly retort, "why six beers of course". If you've had four 16 ozers and someone asks you how many beers you've had, you'd likely stumble and say "umm, about 'pi' beers I think. Depends on the radius."

You failed to discuss the Proper English Pint, which are those pint glasses with the extra bump-out at the top that you get at respectable pubs. Those suckers are 20 oz. Which might help if you thought of things in terms of 40s of malt liquor...

I agree that the better move would be to the "Imperial" Pint of 20oz. Mostly you'll get to the appropriate answer to "how many beers have you had?" faster:

"You know what? Fuck you. That's how many beers I've had, okay?! No seriously, you're an asshole. Wait, wait, no that's not fair, I've just had a lot to drink, I didn't mean it. It's not your fault, let me buy you a drink, c'mon at least me buy you some food, we should really grab a bite. I haven't eaten anything since like...since...um. Hey, have you got any pot?"
